Cons

  • Lower oven doesn't bake cookies evenly between two trays

The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS freestanding double oven electric range is available in stainless steel, black, and white finishes, so it’s designed to match most kitchens. Regardless of the finish, we like the look of this range in particular because of the ultra-sleek smooth cooktop.

This electric range performed better than any we’ve tested previously, especially when it comes to stovetop cooking and even baking.

The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS is the best electric range we've tested.

The electric cooktop has five burners, including a dual-zone burner, a warming zone, and a triple-zone burner. Whirlpool has labeled its triple-zone burner the FlexHeat burner, which it claims is like having three cooking elements in one to accommodate pots and pans of many sizes. The ceramic glass cooktop goes from edge to edge with no visible gaps, which makes clean-up easy.

The oven knobs are dishwasher-safe and our testers liked that they were easy to use and clean. The control panel also features some buttons for special settings, setting the oven temperature, and setting the oven timer for each oven.

The small upper oven has one rack and two rack positions. The large lower oven has two racks with five rack positions. The lower oven also has True Convection, meaning it has a top heating element, bottom heating element, and a third heating element inside the fan in the back of the oven to evenly distribute heat over, under, and around food.

Like other Whirlpool ranges we’ve tested, this model is equipped with Sabbath Mode so it can be used on the Sabbath for those who observe. Sabbath Mode disables the oven’s automatic shut-off so it will stay on for longer than 12 hours and keep your food warm or cook without needing to turn the oven on again. This oven is also equipped with Frozen Bake, Convection Conversion, Keep Warm, Rapid Preheat, and Steam Clean.

What we like

The burners on this range are efficient and versatile, thanks to the dual- and triple-zone elements.

The burners are effective and heat quickly

This is really major for an electric range, particularly because they’re known for having the most ineffective (and frustrating) cooktops of all the range types. Generally speaking, induction cooktops and gas cooktops will boil water more quickly than their electric counterparts. That said, the cooktop on this range boiled water at a rate of two minutes per 48 ounces (or one pound) of water, which isn’t quite as fast as the LG LREL6325F, but is significantly faster than many other electric ranges we’ve tested.

Additionally, the triple-zone Flex Burner is a game changer. This means this burner is compatible with a small saucepan, large stockpot, and anything in between, adding to the overall versatility and efficiency of this cooktop.

The cooktop and ovens are spacious

Speaking of the cooktop, this one is quite spacious. Its burners are arranged so that you could fit appropriately sized pots on at least four of the five burners simultaneously. That’s some good appliance design, if you ask us.

Similar to other double oven ranges we’ve tested, like the KitchenAid KFID500ESS, this Whirlpool model has a combined oven capacity of 6.7 cu. ft., which is significantly larger than the 5-cubic-foot capacity of many single oven ranges or even the 6.3-cubic-foot capacity of other double oven ranges.

This extra bit of room is divided between the two ovens, so while you may not be able to roast the biggest turkey money can buy, you can absolutely cook multiple dishes at different temperatures (or on different settings) simultaneously.

Both ovens bake cookies, pizza, and pork mostly evenly

The top and bottom ovens both excelled at our cookie, pizza, and pork tests, for the most part. Pork came out perfectly cooked in both ovens on the standard bake setting, looking nicely browned on the outside and still ever-so-slightly pink when cut into.

Our tester baked pizza in the lower oven only using the standard bake setting and it cooked all the way through, even on the sometimes-tricky bottom of the crust. The cookies were a slightly different story—standard bake produced beautifully even results across multiple pans cooked simultaneously for both the top and bottom ovens. The bottom oven’s convection setting, however, didn’t have the same stellar results.

What we don’t like

Two trays of cookies baked simultaneously in the lower oven on convection bake produced drastically different doneness.

The lower oven doesn’t bake cookies evenly between two trays

The difference between the doneness of the cookie bottoms is jarring. If you plan to use the True Convection setting often for baking bread and sweets, bear in mind that the bottom rack will cook more quickly than the top. That said, we don’t think this is a deal breaker as both trays of cookies still look delicious.

Warranty

The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS has a one-year limited warranty for parts and labor. This is standard for a range.

What owners are saying

Owners love that this range accommodates a wide variety of cookware and bakeware. Reviewers on the brand’s website like fast preheat, easy to use controls, and triple-zone burner. With an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars and over 1,500 reviews on Whirpool’s site, it’s clear many users approve of this range.

The reviews at Lowe’s and The Home Depot illustrate more of the same—owners love baking with this range, but some note that the installation was a bit tricky as the range might not sit flush with your wall depending on your particular kitchen setup.

Should you buy it?

Yes, it’s high-performing, spacious, and relatively affordable.

The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS electric range is a knockout across the board. It passed every test we threw at it with flying colors, from boiling water to baking pizza. Its ability to multitask sets it apart from other ranges, in particular having the option to bake two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously and fit at least four pots on the cooktop at once. The only small downside we could find to this range was the uneven doneness of cookies when we tested True Convection mode in the bottom oven. That said, this is still the best electric range we’ve tested.

If you’re in the market for a high-performing electric range and you simply must have Air Fry mode, check out the LG LREL6325F. Formerly our pick for best electric range, it allows you to air fry foods at the touch of a button, plus it has short boil times and bakes evenly.
