What we like

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s wash cycles finish faster and scrub out more stains than the average washer’s.

While we like the Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s look and feature set, the core functionality of a washer is scrubbing out stains.

Fortunately, the WF53BB8700AT doesn’t let us down in this regard.

When we ran the Samsung WF53BB8700AT through testing in our lab, it generally performed well for its price point, which is to say it out-performed the average washer. In most cases, the margin between an average and above-average performance is a few percentage points. While these differences are small enough that it would be difficult to perceive after a single wash, they can compound over time, leading to a faster loss of brightness and clothes that begin to look dingier, faster.

Both the Normal and Delicates cycles outperformed the average washer’s cleaning capabilities by these margins, but where we are really impressed is with this Samsung washer’s Heavy Duty cycle. It cleaned about 4% better than average. Again, this might not be readily apparent after a single wash, you will notice a much slower buildup of dinginess over time.

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s performance looks even more impressive when you take time into consideration. Not only is the WF53BB8700AT able to out-clean the average washer, it is able to do so in a fraction of the time.

The average Normal cycle takes about 54 minutes and the average quick cycle takes 32 minutes. During testing, the Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s Normal cycle took just 45 minutes and its Super Speed cycle took only 25 minutes. This is even faster than the advertised 28 minutes.

These fast cycle times mean this washer is quite efficient at cleaning. While that’s great for your clothes, it’s also good for the environment—less electricity is being wasted.

Its gigantic wash drum is perfect for larger families—with some additional perks

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT has a whopping 6.1-cubic-foot wash drum. This provides significantly more room for laundry than the average washer, which typically provides between 4 and 5 cubic feet.

One of the major perks of the Samsung WF53BB8700AT front-load washing machine is its monster wash drum.

Where most washers have about 4 cubic feet of space for your laundry, the WF53BB8700AT has 6.1 cubic feet of space. Being able to wash 50% more laundry is sure to cut down on how frequently you’ll need to run a wash cycle.

This is impressive enough, but the Samsung WF53BB8700AT has a few other features that make its wash drum special. For starters, it has an internal LED to help you see what you’re doing, even in a dimly-lit laundry room, to ensure no sock is left behind.

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s drum also benefits from a few features that combat problems front-loaders have historically suffered from: mildew buildup along the interior gasket and noise from heavy vibrations.

The Self Clean+ feature helps remove dirt and odor-causing bacteria building up in the drum and along the interior gasket by combining a powerful water jet and high spin speed. The SmartThings app will also remind you when it’s time to activate a Self Clean+ cycle, which is every 40 days.

The VRT Plus system helps reduce vibrations, resulting in notably quiet operation.

Its steam features help sanitize, refresh, and loosen fabrics

Steam is one of the more popular modern innovations in the laundry space. Typically temperatures of 150°F or more are dangerous for your clothes, as it dries out thread fibers, making them brittle and more susceptible to wear and tear damage.

By introducing steam into the equation, however, you keep everything moisturized and pliable, which allows a more thorough scrub with less damage.

Two of the major benefits of steam are sanitization and wrinkle reduction. In order to properly sanitize your clothes, temperatures must be at least 140°F to start killing pathogens, and additional heat both speeds up this process and makes it more thorough. The heat and moisture also helps relax fabrics so they release wrinkles more easily.

Its varied controls and smart features improve the user experience

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT has several features that make controlling this washer (and its paired dryer) a breeze.

Its Smart Dial will remember your preferences and seasonal usage, then use that information to provide advice on which wash cycle to use, automatically tell your paired dryer (in this case, the Samsung DVE53BB8700T which drying cycle is best, and allows you to troubleshoot any issues via Samsung’s smart companion app, SmartThings.

The SmartThings companion app also lets users start and customize cycles remotely, provides diagnostics, and allows for integration with Alexa, Google Nest, and other third party suites.

It can be installed in a laundry closet with ease

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT and its paired dryer (the Samsung DVE53BB8700T) are stackable, allowing you to fit both machines into a laundry closet. This is the biggest washer and dryer set that can fit inside a laundry closet, letting you maximize your available space while cutting down on the frequency you need to run wash cycles.

Normally, this would put the controls of the dryer (which is stacked on top) out of easy reach, but fortunately the WF53BB8700AT’s MultiControl feature allows you to use the washer’s controls to operate the dryer, when they are stacked.

We like stacked washers and dryers in general, not only because they help conserve floor space, but also because unloading a more eye-level dryer is often easier than needing to stoop down to a floor-level machine.

What we don’t like

The on-board control panel can be difficult to read

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT doesn’t have many salient downsides, but this is one that could affect some users more than others: The digital control panel is angled in such a way that it can be difficult for a taller person to read it. This is both something we noticed during testing and also something we saw in user reviews.

Basically, the more height you stand over six feet, the dimmer the panel will appear. I was able to notice this myself, but at my 6-foot height this effect was minor.

Fortunately, the Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s remote control functionality via the SmartThings app helps make this already minor issue even more minor.

The end-of-cycle jingle is incredibly loud and long

We’re not fans of the Samsung WF53BB8700AT end-of-cycle jingle. It’s both incredibly loud and incredibly long.

Depending on where your laundry room is in your house, this may be a boon or it may be an annoyance.

The main problem we have with this jingle is there are no volume controls, just the option to disable the jingle entirely. We would have liked the ability to pick from one of several jingles and also toggled its volume.

Of course, this minor complaint is fortunately mitigated by the appliance’s smart features: You can opt to receive a notification on the app when a cycle is complete.

You can see the warning sticker even when the door’s closed

The warning label is a small eyesore to the sleek appearance of this premium washer.

Though this is another minor issue, it’s an odd oversight when you consider that the Samsung WF53BB8700AT’s aesthetics are such a central selling point. When the washer’s door is closed, you can still see a sliver of the warning label peeking out.

While you can simply remove the sticker, it has some important information on it, so it’s worth saving.

What owners are saying

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT is still relatively new to the market, so most retailers have fewer than 100 reviews and those reviews are overwhelmingly positive. As more reviews come in, we’ll get a clearer picture of how the WF53BB8700AT fares over time.

That being said, the reviews that are posted definitely seem promising: the Samsung WF53BB8700AT is currently averaging 4.8 out of 5 stars across major retailers.

The most common point of praise, by far, is for this washer’s looks. Many users love its sleek, modern aesthetic and find it a welcome addition to their laundry rooms. Owners also love the WF53BB8700AT’s quiet operation, overall cleaning power, and its large feature set.

Warranty

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT is covered by several different warranties. The entire appliance has a one-year warranty that covers parts and labor.

You can get a replacement for the stainless steel tub for up to three years. You can get parts for the direct drive motor for up to 10 years.

Furthermore, the digital inverter motor may be covered for up to 20 years, if your model was assembled in the U.S. and purchased on or after July 1, 2022.

Given that most other appliances stop at the single year of coverage, we’re thrilled that Samsung goes above and beyond to guarantee key components for such an extended period. It helps make the Samsung WF53BB8700AT feel like more of a long-term investment.

Should you buy the Samsung WF53BB8700AT?

Yes, this washer offers a lot for its purchase price and its robust warranty helps maximize your investment

If you’re looking for a new, design-forward front-loader, the Samsung WF53BB8700AT is a great choice. It has a sleek, modern design that will look at home in any laundry room.

It has solid stain-fighting power. It has one of the largest wash drums we’ve seen to date, allowing you to dramatically reduce the frequency you need to run a wash cycle. On top of all this, the WF53BB8700AT also has some great extra features, many of which mitigate the minor complaints we did have about the machine.

If you’re looking to make an investment in a washer you can depend on for a long time, we think the Samsung WF53BB8700AT makes a good case for itself. Not only is it a good washer by every metric we measure, it’s covered by an extensive warranty that covers some of its most important parts for up to two decades.

We recommend getting a new washer every 10–13 years, and this warranty potentially lets you get an even longer lifespan.

If you’re in the market for a higher-end front-load washer, we also recommend the Electrolux ELFW7637AT. While it lacks the looks and many of the WF53BB8700AT’s features, it does offer better cleaning performance.
