About the Our Place Wonder Oven

This small countertop oven comes with several cooking trays for a variety of uses.

This countertop appliance looks like an unassuming toaster oven—maybe even one from several decades ago—but it's much more than that. Beyond toasting, it can air fry, cook with steam, and churn out full meals in very little time.

It features three old-school dials as a control panel: One for temperature, one for cooking mode, and one for a timer. The internal light automatically turns on once the timer is set.

There are five pre-set cooking modes: Air Fry, Bake, Broil, Reheat, and Toast. Then there's a small knob on the top that houses the steam inlet, which allows you to incorporate steam in any cooking mode—think juicy chicken or fluffy bread.

The Wonder Oven comes with four accessories: A wire rack, bake pan, air fryer basket, and removable crumb tray. All the accessories—as well as the oven's interior—are made of either chrome steel or stainless steel. The only exception is the bake pan, which features a nonstick ceramic coating for easier clean-up.

What we like

It air fries excellently—and with impressive speed

Frozen fries came out evenly cooked and crispy during our tests.

Air frying in this machine is a dream. Its small build means it preheats impressively fast and crisps foods quickly and evenly. Our Place boasts that it preheats 75% faster and cooks 30% faster than traditional ovens.

During testing, everything from frozen fries to leftover fried calamari emerged delightfully crispy, tasting like they had just emerged from a fryer.

The air fryer basket is the perfect vessel for these tasks because it allows air to circulate evenly under and around the food, resulting in bites with a 360-degree crunch.

The steam function is a great addition

The steam function in the Wonder Oven allowed us to achieve a decadently fluffy flatbread.

What sets this machine apart from typical air fryer toaster ovens is the steam inlet, which makes it easy to incorporate steam into food as it cooks.

This function is great for ensuring foods like salmon and chicken emerge flavorful and juicy, or for breathing new life into leftover pizza or day-old bread. We tested this feature by following Our Place's recipe for za'atar flatbread with caramelized onions. The result was decadently fluffy dough, with delightfully crispy and browned crust.

It has a small footprint but decent capacity

From cooking morning bacon to roasting a whole chicken for dinner, the Wonder Oven is incredibly versatile.

Part of this oven's charming appeal—aside from its vintage design—is its small build. It measures out at just under a foot in height and width, making it a great addition to crowded countertops.

But its small build doesn't mean it has a measly capacity. We were able to roast a 4.5-pound chicken in this oven with plenty of space. Plus, it features several rack levels to allow you to cook multiple things at once—like salmon and potatoes or steak and broccoli. (And if you need more than one of each accessory, Our Place sells them separately.)

The design is adorable

The charming details of the Wonder Oven will make you want to keep it out and show it off.

We just can't talk about an Our Place product without mentioning the attention to detail when it comes to the brand's aesthetics.

The Wonder Oven is undoubtedly charming, with its old-fashioned dials, spacious viewing window, and handle wide enough to hang a kitchen towel.

Best of all, it comes in four of the brand's classicaly trendy colors: Char, Steam, Blue Salt, and Spice. So you can opt to go classic with a neutral color or make it stand out as a conversation starter with one of the more eccentric options.

What we don't like

The controls can be confusing

Unfortunately, the old-school dials on this machine had us second-guessing settings like time and temperature.

Although the dials on the Wonder Oven offer a sense of nostalgia, they did cause us some confusion during testing.

Because the time and temperature are set with minimalistic dials that lack precision, you can never be 100 percent positive that the oven is set to the appropriate settings. At the risk of dampening the nostalgic design, we would prefer a screen that displays the set temperature to ensure we set the dial in the exact intended position.

Instead, we found ourselves guesstimating with the dial arrows each time, often setting a secondary timer on a phone or smart watch to ensure that we weren't over- or under-cooking any of the meals.

The accessories aren't dishwasher safe

Although the accessories are made of chromed or stainless steel, Our Place discourages placing any of them in the dishwasher. This isn't a deal-breaker of course (the bake pan is especially easy to rinse clean thanks to its nonstick coating), but it is something that required more upkeep than expected.

Should you buy the Our Place Wonder Oven?

This space-saving appliance excels at several tasks—and it looks good doing it.

Yes—especially if you value aesthetics in your appliances

We loved using the Wonder Oven. Whether we were using it to cook a full meal, reheat leftovers, or experiment with a new recipe, the process often felt quick and painless. It's an extremely versatile machine, with the ability to bake desserts, air fry foods, and cook full meals with juicy results—all while taking up minimal counter space.

There is a learning curve when it comes to the unusual dial controls, but it just takes some practice—we made sure to give the machine 3-5 minutes to preheat to ensure it hit the right temperature, and the expected results typically followed. But we do recommend utilizing a secondary timer for extra precision.

If you're not willing to sacrifice a more intuitive control panel for aesthetics, the Tovala Smart Oven Pro is another option that offers steam cooking and air frying in one (much more modern) machine.
