How we test dishwashers
At Reviewed, we test appliances at our in-house lab facilities in Cambridge, Mass. In our extensive dishwasher testing process, we load dishwashers with 18 or more bowls, plates, glasses, and other dishes, which are soiled with various types of food. We then run cycles and collect data on how clean each piece comes out.
Our soil tests include spinach, lasagna, cheese, meat, and oatmeal. We test tougher soils in the heavy cycle, these can include casserole dishes coated with lasagna or sugar.
We also collect data on cycle length, efficiency, water usage, energy expenditure, and more.
What we like
Premium design makes this stainless-steel dishwasher stand out
Miele brings the stainless steel, outside and in.
Known for compact size and somewhat higher price tags, Miele is full of premium flourish.
The first detail most people will notice about the Miele is the stainless-steel treatment on its front panel. Finger-print resistant, this unit won’t smudge up with grubby fingers.
Premium design doesn’t stop with visuals. The appliance also invests in tactility, with mechanical buttons that give you a satisfying push-button interface. Smooth closing hinges ensure that it doesn’t snap shut as many high-tensioned dishwasher doors will.
It’s extremely quiet
No one wants the end of their relaxing wine and cheese night marred by a loud dishwashing cycle. Thanks to stainless steel both inside and out, this Miele produces only 44 decibels of noise. It won’t spoil the mood of your morning coffee as you sip away in the breakfast nook.
In testing, we found the Miele to be whisper-quiet. If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, you’ll appreciate how little noise the appliance makes.
It saves water and energy like a champ
When it comes to conserving water, dishwashers offer superior efficiency to handwashing. But the Miele G5058 SCVi SFP is among the best of the best.
The appliance won Energy Star’s Most Efficient award for its distinguished efficiency. We found it to be 10 percent more efficient than competitors.
If you live in a desert or other arid region and are looking to do your part by reducing water consumption, then this is one of the best dishwashers on the market.
We should note that dishwashers tend to be relatively affordable to run compared to other appliances, like dryers. Given standard electricity and water costs, the Miele will cost you about 10 to 20 cents per load.
It cleans better than budget models
The G5058 SCVi SFP is a great entry point to the Miele brand.
The Miele G5058 SCVi SFP dishwasher cleans better than entry-level dishwashers.
In comparison to the Whirlpool WDT750SAHZ’s Heavy cycle, the Miele’s cycle left only one dish with stains on it while the Whirlpool had five.
Rebates make this Miele dishwasher more affordable
This Miele is sold exclusively at Lowe’s. Thankfully, Lowe’s offers a generous rebate program. While these rebates won’t reduce the cost upfront, they will help you recoup some of the money you paid afterward.
Currently, Lowe’s offers up to $500 in rebates with basic installation. Just be mindful that the rebate is only available for 30 days after purchase.
These rebates soften the Miele’s price substantially, bringing its total cost into the mid-range for high-end dishwashers.
What we don’t like
It underperforms among the upper range of dishwashers
The Miele G5058 SCVi SFP has an upper-range price. It does a good job at cleaning, outperforming most budget dishwashers. However, it doesn’t quite make a place for itself among the best of the best. Particularly, the dishwasher’s normal cycle falls a little short.
Its standard price is comparable to our best overall pick, the SHPM88Z75N Bosch Dishwasher, or the aforementioned Miele G 5266 SCVi SFP. Both of these excellent dishwashers handily beat it in tests.
The claims about its quick cycle are a bit overblown
The Miele’s quick cycle is speedy, even going by the title Quickintensewash. The cycle does effectively serve up a clean load of dishes in under one hour and does a better job than most entry-level dishwashers. However, its overall quick cycle quality lagged the competition in how thoroughly it swabbed away grime and stains—even if it beat their time by a few minutes.
What owners are saying
The Miele G5058 SCVi SFP is still new and what few customer reviews are available are generally positive, with some mixed responses. People generally approve of the dishwasher’s finish and cleaning ability.
Some people complain that there isn’t a light that informs you when the cycle has completed. Instead, the dishwasher relies on a chime, which can be hard to hear from other rooms.
Others mention that the dishwasher’s format can make it hard to place especially large plates. However, in our tests we were able to fill it with a substantial amount of dishware. The unit features three racks, with the middle adjustable up or down to accommodate larger kitchenware on the bottom. We were able to fit multiple casserole dishes in with a full load of glasses, plates, and bowls.
Warranty
The Miele G5058 SCVi SFP has a two year warranty. Further protection plans are available from Lowe’s which will protect your Miele for periods between three and five years. These plans begin after your dishwasher’s manufacturer’s warranty ends.
Should you buy the Miele G5058 SCVi SFP dishwasher?
Yes. If you can get rebates or a discounted price, it’s a good upgrade
The G5058 SCVi SFP has a lot going for it, but still falls behind other Miele dishwashers and other top performers.
The Miele G5058 SCVi SFP is a premium upgrade dishwasher that’s priced more affordably. At its standard price, the Miele underperforms against similarly priced, premium built-in dishwashers. At its root, this is an entry point to the high-end Miele brand.
For the right price, we think that the Miele G5058 SCVi SFP stainless-steel dishwasher is a good buy. Lowe’s makes this possible with rebates. Currently, these will defray the total cost of this appliance to the tune of hundreds. A savvy shopper should be able to invest in this Miele dishwasher at a significantly lower cost.
At full price, this Miele’s shine doesn’t go deep enough to be worth it. The similarly priced Miele G 5266 SCVi SF outperforms it, as do other top performers among the best dishwashers we’ve tested. Those who are looking to spend a little less will appreciate what the value-priced Beko DUT25401X brings to the table.
The Miele G5058 SCVi SFP is a more affordably priced premium stainless-steel dishwasher. With excellent efficiency, good wash power, and premium design, it makes an excellent upgrade.
