For an everyday brow gel that creates a comfortable, “no makeup” finish, look no further than Glossier Boy Brow (available at Glossier) . This simple product is one of Glossier’s top sellers—and after trying it , I understand why. Spoiler alert: It provides just the right amount of hold that lasts throughout the day but looks and feels completely natural—no stiffness or crunchiness. If you’re a fan of Glossier’s minimalist makeup products, you’ll want to add Boy Brow to your cart.
What is Glossier Boy Brow?
Glossier’s beloved Boy Brow is an eyebrow styling pomade designed to thicken and shape your brows. Its conditioning formula claims to create a flexible hold on your hairs that will last all day and provide the natural-looking, “no-makeup makeup” look Glossier is known for.
The pomade contains beeswax and carnauba wax for styling, oleic acid (an emollient found in olive oil) to soften the brows, and hyaluronic acid to add hydration. This combination of ingredients gives the formula a thicker, waxy consistency compared to many brow gels.
Boy Brow’s wand is slightly smaller than that of other brow gels I’ve tried, measuring about 3.5 inches long, and the bristles are about a quarter of an inch long and an eighth of an inch thick. It’s available in five shades—black, brown, auburn, blonde, and clear—and costs $17 for 0.11 ounces of product. It’s less expensive than similar products from Kosas or Benefit, but costs about three times as much as drugstore brands like e.l.f. Cosmetics.
My brows are quite thick to begin with, so I don’t normally fill them in. I tested Boy Brow in the clear shade to see how well it tamed my brows without adding too much fullness.
What I like about Glossier Boy Brow
Glossier Boy holds all day.
It creates a natural finish
I love how natural Boy Brow looks. It shapes and defines my eyebrows, but the clear finish doesn’t make it obvious I’m wearing any product. If your brows are sparse, the tinted options can add depth to your brows without making them appear fully filled in.
It holds all day
This product holds my brows in place all day through errands, my commute, and even a sweat-inducing hot yoga class. They maintained their shape but never felt stiff or crunchy like when you use too much hairspray or gel. As someone who doesn’t wear makeup to the office and gym every day, I often forget I’m wearing Boy Brow.
It’s easy to apply
I brush my hairs up section by section and then sweep the wand over the tops of my brows to give them a softer look. The size of the brush makes it easy to mold my brows into the shape I want, as opposed to a larger spoolie, which can make it difficult to create definition.
What I don’t like about Glossier Boy Brow
You have to brush it.
It has limited shades
The five shades Boy Brow currently comes in may not work for everyone. The clear option works for anyone just looking to shape their brows, but if you’re looking for a tinted pomade to help your eyebrows appear fuller, you may want to consider the Kosas Air Brow, which is available in twice as many shades.
You have to brush it out
While I love the result I get with Boy Brow, its formula is thicker than I’d prefer. The first few swipes result in visible small clumps of white wax that I have to thoroughly brush into my brows before heading out the door. It only takes a few extra swipes to distribute the wax, and the end results make it worth it, but it’s an extra step I don’t have to worry about with a brow gel like the Kosas Air Brow or Benefit Gimme Brow.
Is Glossier Boy Brow worth it?
Yes—it’s easy to see why it’s so popular
Glossier Boy Brow's popularity becomes clear the moment you try it.
For me, Glossier Boy Brow is a hit. It creates a natural-looking finish that’s great for everyday use, its hold lasts all day, and it feels like I’m not wearing any product at all. The main downside is the limited shade range, but if the available tints work for you—or if you enjoy the minimalist look of the clear shade—you’ll find yourself reaching for Boy Brow every day.
Glossier Boy Brow is is easy to apply and holds your natural look all day.
