What we like

The Heavy cycle does a solid job

If you already own a GE Profile PDT755SYRFS, the Heavy cycle is your go-to. This cycle outperforms the others by a significant margin, cleaning about 97% of our test stains. Compared to the average dishwasher, this is a par performance: It won’t let you down.

The Heavy cycle was notable for actually handling one of our toughest stains, pureed spinach, much better than most other dishwashers. This seems to be due to the Heavy cycle providing good spray coverage—significantly better than what we saw on the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS’s other cycles.

The Microban antibacterial coating keeps things clean

The flagship feature on this dishwasher, the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS features an antimicrobial coating.

To test the efficacy of this coating, we broke out the petri dishes and swabbed the handle and filter of the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS and another dishwasher that did not feature antimicrobial coating.

While both the filter and handle cultures from the non-treated dishwasher grew cultures, the Microban-coating swabs looked clean and clear.

We’ve seen this technology used before on GE washers and the technology seems solid. Reducing bacterial growth not only keeps unwanted smells at bay, it can keep your family healthier by eliminating a common household source of pathogens.

A third rack provides a home for your ladles

A third rack is a relatively flat tray above the upper rack that gives just enough head space to store bulkier cutlery items, such as spatulas and ladles.

We tend to like third racks, as larger utensils are sometimes awkward to fit into a cutlery tray, too small for the lower tray, and too difficult to shimmy in amidst your glasses.

On the spectrum of third racks, this is a fairly basic one. Some third racks are adjustable to give it more depth, but here we just have a solid tray. It should get the job done.

What we don’t like

There is a dead zone in the back center of the bottom rack

While the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS doesn’t seem to have difficulty with even difficult stains, it does seem to have a “dead zone” in the back of its lower rack where dishes just weren’t getting clean.

We saw this issue across all cycles, though it was least pronounced during the Heavy cycle. Dishes affected by this issue had up to 80% of our test stain remaining after a wash. This issue is significant.

To look into the issue further, we put a camera directly over this “dead zone” to make sure things were working properly. As you can see in the video above, the wash arm does seem to be spraying water evenly and consistently as it moves, and doesn’t appear to behave differently in different areas of the dishwasher.

It appears as though everything is in working order, it’s just that this one area isn’t getting as cleaned as other areas.

Part of the reason this is such a big issue is because the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS has a built-in food disposal system, or masticator, which it says could cut down on pre-rinsing your dishes.

Having an area of the dishwasher where stains are only getting 20% cleaned is disqualifying for a dishwasher at this price point.

Warranty

The GE Profile PDT755SYRFS is covered by an industry-standard, one-year warranty. While useful for swapping out a lemon, a single year isn’t much coverage when compared to some of GE’s competitors. Hisense offers a two-year warranty and companies like LG and Samsung have extended coverage for specific parts that last for five or 10 years.

What owners are saying

Owners generally seem to love this dishwasher, awarding it an average of 4.4 out of 5 stars across major retailers. Those who were happy with their purchase said the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS operated quickly and quietly, and got dishes clean and dry.

Most of those who weren’t happy with their dishwasher indicated it didn’t clean their dishes properly, with some reviews specifically mentioning the back center of the dishwasher.

Should you buy the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS?

No, it has performance issues that make it a poor value

Based on our test results, we can’t recommend buying the GE Profile PDT755SYRFS. While we did see some decent cleaning performance in some areas of the dishwasher, other areas were inconsistent and there is also the issue of that one “dead zone” where several dishes still had up to 80% of the some stains remaining after a wash.

We’re excited about the Microban technology reducing microbial growth and hope to see it on other dishwashers, but its value here doesn’t eclipse the PDT755SYRFS's problems.

If you’re looking for a dishwasher in this price range, there are a lot of better options out there. The Bosch SHPM88Z75N is currently the best dishwasher we’ve tested, has impeccable cleaning performance, most of the same features, and only costs a little more.

If you want to stick with GE, we think the Café CDT875M5NS5 is a much better option from the company, with much better cleaning and similar features.
