Dyson announced a new robot vacuum, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav, which is the successor to the Dyson 360 Eye. We got to spend time with the Vis Nav before its launch, and we are happy to report it has all the design aspects we liked about Dyson's original robot vacuum, along with plenty of worthwhile upgrades.
As its name suggests, the 360 Vis Nav utilizes a 360-degree panoramic camera to localize and navigate itself. Based on the specs and what we learned at the press event on Mondya, May 22, the Vis Nav uses high-contrast imaging to find the edges of any space it cleans.
This advancement is one of the more exciting upgrades because many robot vacuums, either because of shape or navigation, struggle to clean the edges and corners in rooms. The Vis Nav utilizes a pop-out actuator to skim the border of a room, leaving no crumb or spec of dust behind.
The Samsung Powerbots has a similar feature, but Dyson’s implementation seems to be more robust.
The Vis Nav also has a full-length brush head: the Fluffy brush head. This brush head, which specializes in cleaning hardwood floors, is an improvement over the previous model because it features anti-static carbon and soft nylon bristles.
Additionally, the Dyson Vis Nav borrows elements from its cordless vacuum cousins. The new Dyson robot vacuum features an LCD screen to display a variety of readings, including ones from the acoustic piezo sensors. These sensors tell you the amount and size of particles the Vis Nav is cleaning.
Pricing and release date information is unavailable at publication. However, check back here for product updates and our official review of the Dyson Vis Nav later this year.
