Bio Bidet is one of our favorite brands for bidet attachments. We’ve found some of the features on Bio Bidet seats excessive by times. However, generally, we like Bio Bidet seats and bidet attachments—and so do many others. We were excited at the prospect of writing a new Bio Bidet review for their latest flagship seat, the Bio Bidet Discovery DLS (available at Amazon for $599.00) .
Unfortunately, things got frustrating quickly. This bidet seat has some thoughtful features, from a remote that raises and lowers the seat to a “dynamic stream” intended to stimulate movement in people having issues using the bathroom.
Unfortunately, the build quality is rough in a way that the features do not offset, including inconsistent pressure and temperature, damaged parts, and a shaking nozzle. Suffice to say, the Bio Bidet Discovery DLS frustrated us at several crucial points.
About the Bio Bidet Discovery DLS
The Discovery DLS is Bio Bidet’s newest flagship bidet seat, intended to supplant the previous Bio Bidet Bliss BB-2000. The newer model drops some features, like water oscillation and pulsation, and adds a few new ones, like a motion-detecting automated seat.
How to install the Bio Bidet Discovery DLS
Installation on the new top-tier Bio Bidet was mostly straightforward (at least for someone like myself who has done this before). To install this seat (and many like it), secure the including mounting plate to your toilet using the holes where the toilet seat typically goes. Then, slide the bidet toilet seat onto the plate until it clicks into place.
On the plumbing side, shut off the water for your toilet and flush it thoroughly. Remove the water line and install a T-joint under the toilet. The T-joint lets the water line flow into the toilet tank and the bidet.
We found it moderately easy to install, with the caveat that someone not familiar with bidet installation might find the instructions confusingly minimalist.
It's worth noting that, during the installation process, a small piece of the bidet (a flap that protects the water nozzle and keeps it clean when not in use) broke and dropped into the toilet bowl.
What we like
The Bio Bidet Discovery DLS comes with some fantastic features
There are numerous luxe features on this toilet seat, including gentle dryer steam and quiet operation during use.
The Discovery DLS touts many useful features around comfort, convenience, and accessibility. By default, the lid automatically opens when you approach and closes when you leave.
Of course, it can be stressful to have the lid open because you got too close while grabbing something from your medicine cabinet.
Instead, you can turn off the auto open/close and use the included wireless remote control to control the seat, similar to how a garage door opener functions.
The bidet seat is also heated, and the water uses a heating system, providing comfort with warmer temperatures versus the cold and clamminess you may be used to with other bidets.
A night light illuminates the toilet bowl for late-night bathroom visits, and a built-in UV sterilization system cleans the nozzle after every use.
Like nearly every bidet seat, you can adjust the water temperature, pressure stream, and the nozzle position. You can also control the air dryer.
A wash cycle will run through cleaning and drying for you. However, the 90-second wash time feels a little extreme.
Finally, Bio Bidet ditched the enema-adjacent water jet feature from previous models, which is a relief. When we tested the Bliss BB 2000, we found that button poorly marked, painful to experience, and too easy to press on accident. Instead, the new model gives you what Bio Bidet calls a “dynamic stream" that claims to stimulate bowel movements by alternating warm and ambient water.
I invited a (close) friend to test the feature to see if it actually helped them with a bowl movement. In their one-off test, they found that the dynamic stream did help. This is great news for people who have trouble with regularity.
The Bio Bidet Discovery DLS is comfortable
The Discovery DLS bidet toilet seat feels comfortable to sit on—the seat feels nice, for a start. The seat warmer and water heater were both great to use in the middle of winter.
The water streams for the front and rear wash are highly adjustable in both angle and pressure. The water feels forceful and focused enough to be effective but is not so strong that it's painful.
Bio Bidet was clearly trying to craft a posh experience and, within certain limits, has succeeded with the DLS Discovery bidet seat. Despite some of our frustrations, the day-to-day experience of using the bidet seat feels luxe, as long as you don’t push it too hard.
What we don’t like
The build quality is just so-so
When we started installing this toilet, some of the pieces felt flimsy. A protective flap intended to cover the water nozzle announced its existence by falling, broken, into the toilet bowl, and we had to fish it out.
The nightlight softly flickers in the dark, even when turned off. Bio Bidet let us know that this is part of the proximity detection system at work, looking for users who might need the lid raised for them. However, it's distracting as it persisted with the proximity system off.
Additionally, cranking the water pressure past a certain point caused the spray wand to shake and sputter.
With an MSRP of $900, the Bio Bidet DLS Discovery should be a flagship piece. However, no bidet should be shaking because you turned the pressure up too high and certainly not a high-end model like this one.
The lid can be finicky
Looks can be deceiving—the seat itself was flimsy and we ran into a few plumbing problems.
Seeing the seat raise automatically when you approach is cool and definitely has accessibility uses. However, it fired off at unexpected times.
Retrieving something from the cabinet over the toilet feels perilous since the seat may open up beneath you unexpectedly, waiting for you to drop something in.
Likewise, if you use the button controls, it is easy to switch up the buttons that raise and lower the whole seat versus just the lid.
Waiting for the lid to open can be stressful if you're in a hurry to sit down, and hitting the wrong button (and waiting to fix it) can be even more stressful.
The bidet toilet seat is missing a few features
For the price that this smart toilet seat is offered at, we'd expect a better variety of personalizations and upgrades.
There are also a few features we expected to see on even a midrange bidet seat that are absent here. There are no oscillation or pulse settings, which can help ensure a thorough cleaning.
There are also no user profile settings for temperature or pressure.
Warranty
Bio Bidet offers a full warranty on 100% of the cost on all parts and service for five years after the purchase date. The generous warranty is appropriate given the high-end price of this bidet seat, and it certainly helps assuage some of our build quality qualms.
Should you buy Bio Bidet Discovery DLS?
Maybe, it depends on your budget
We’ve never felt more deeply conflicted about a bidet toilet seat before. On paper, this could easily be one of the all-time great bidet seats. Unfortunately, the issues we encountered are enough to leave us with questions about the bidet seat's longevity.
There’s a lot to like here. The automatic lid may be a big benefit in the right home. The remote is slick and neatly divided between features you may use often and options you may only need periodically. If our issues were a fluke, and if Bio Bidet’s warranty comes through, then the Discovery DLS may well be worth the premium price.
In the moments when this bidet seat works the way it's supposed to, it feels luxurious. But the absence of some common features and concerns about the overall stability give us some pause.
We remain huge fans of Bio Bidet's attachments, like the ELITE 3. Our favorite seat we've tested remains the Brondell Swash 1400, while my personal favorite blend of performance and affordability is the TOTO C200
The Bio Bidet Discovery DLS smart toilet seat comes with a variety of luxury features, but has several limitations.
