Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or just because, flowers are a lovely way to show someone you’re thinking of them. While you may not always have the ability to swing by with a fresh bouquet, flower delivery services allow you to send flowers to your long-distance loved ones, no matter where they live.

Of all the flower delivery services we tried, Teleflora (available at Teleflora) is the best flower delivery service thanks to its large variety of options for any occasion. The flowers also arrived right on time and showed up looking like just what we ordered. Teleflora flowers are beautifully crafted by florists local to the recipient's location and are hand-delivered, giving each bouquet an extra special touch.

If you’re looking to spend up on your floral delivery, check out UrbanStems (available at UrbanStems), which is our Best Upgrade pick. UrbanStems offer gorgeous arrangements that arrive bundled in a cardboard box, exuding that fresh-picked flower feel once placed in water. However, we tested many flower delivery services, each offering a little something different depending on your needs.

Our favorite flower delivery service is Teleflora which brings beautiful high-quality arrangements straight to your door.

Best Overall
Teleflora

Teleflora is the best flower delivery service we tested for several reasons. First, the ordering process is incredibly easy and straightforward. Second, the floral arrangement options are plentiful. Third, and most importantly, the blooms showed up on time looking exactly like the picture on the website when we placed our ordering.

The website is well-organized with bouquets for special occasions, as well as the option to look at bouquets with specific flowers. Though Teleflora is a national online flower delivery service, the company relies on local florists to craft the bouquets, delivering them straight to your recipient's doorstep.

Teleflora bouquets come in three different sizes: Standard, deluxe, and premium. When clicking through the different sizes, Teleflora shows examples of each size so you know exactly what will arrive.

There’s a big variety in the presentation of the flowers from adorable smiley face vessels to mod pots. In addition to flowers, Teleflora also offers several gift options so you can add on balloons, chocolate, and more.

With the exception of certain holidays, Teleflora offers same day delivery at no additional cost. However, some holidays, like Valentine's Day, cost extra for delivery due to the increased demand.

When the flowers arrived at our doorstep, we were thrilled at their luminous colors. The bouquet looked exactly as it did online and the flowers maintained their good looks in the days post-delivery. The bouquet didn't include plant food but care instruction, however, the flowers remained fresh with a change of water every few days.

Ordering flowers online can be a bit of a gamble, but you can take heart that Teleflora won't let you down.

Pros

  • Same-day delivery

  • Huge design variety

  • Customizable

Cons

  • None we could find

Best Upgrade
UrbanStems

UrbanStems is also one of the best online flower delivery services, earning the title of Best Upgrade. While the arrangements are pricier than other flower delivery services we tested, these blooms are worth spending up on because of the incredible color and beauty. But, there's a catch.

Unlike most flower delivery services we tested, UrbanStems flowers come arranged in a cardboard box and not a vase. During the ordering process, you can add on a vase for an additional charge.

The flowers arrived on time and looked lovely, but a little TLC is necessary to make them pop. After placing them in a vase of water for 24 hours, the flowers came to life with rich colors and stunning blooms. Plant food is included, too, helping the flowers fill out in about a day.

UrbanStems offers limited same-day delivery options and a handful of next-day shipments. Each bouquet is customizable, so you can double or triple the size of the bouquet for an impressive floral arrangement.

UrbanStems bouquets offer a more modern look than other flower delivery services in our guide, making it a perfect choice for anyone you’re looking to impress. UrbanStems also offers cheeky designs such as ‘This Bud’s For You,’ which is a gorgeous bundle of roses in a Budweiser beer pitcher.

You can add on candy and candles to round out your next gift. If you don’t mind spending a little extra on flowers, Urbanstems is the place to go for an unforgettable bouquet they'll be talking about all year long.

Pros

  • Unique arrangements

  • Flowers last a while

  • Care instructions included

  • Quick shipping

Cons

  • Vases are not always included

  • Some setup required

Other Online Flower Delivery Services We Tested

Product image of Floom
Floom

Floom is a flower delivery service that connects you with local florists. Each arrangement listed is designed and delivered by independent florists in your recipient's area. You can purchase and schedule your delivery all through the Floom site, but it will be delivered by the florist you’re purchasing from.

You can search the arrangements by your zip code and delivery date to see what is available based on your location and browse through all the local florists who can fulfill the order when you need it. Depending on the florist you pick flowers from, gifts may be available. The florist I chose a bouquet from had the option to add on gifts like candles or stuffed animals.

If you need to make a last minute change to your order, rest assured that Floom has great customer service to help via the online chat service. We needed the delivery address changed on my order, and the customer service team made the change and communicated it to the florist we ordered from.

The flowers we purchased were from a local florist and arrived on time and looking stunning, just like what we ordered. The bouquet include a packet of plant food.

Floom is a great option if you want to support local businesses while gifting flowers at a reasonable price.

Pros

  • Uses local florists

  • Good customer service

Cons

  • Limited number of vendors

Product image of FTD
FTD

The flowers we ordered from FTD, one of the longest standing flower delivery services around, looked great in terms of quality, with full blooms and no limp stems plus a vase was included. However, the color palette didn’t look like what we’d anticipated from the photos online, which the site cautions you about during the ordering process.

It's not a total dud, as the flowers do look beautiful and arrive on time, but just be aware that the colors may differ from what you order online. The flowers did not include plant food but did come with simple care constructions to change the water daily and trim the stems.

On the plus side, the well-established company offers a huge variety of flowers, plants, and gifts.

Items on the site listed as florist-to-door are made and delivered locally, and most arrangements include vases. There are a limited number of styles that are available for same-day delivery.

If you're looking for a quick way to send flowers, with plenty of options to pick from, FTD is a reliable choice for fresh flowers delivered right on time. However, just note that the colors may not look like exactly what you ordered.

Pros

  • Large selection of gift add-ons

  • Good variety

  • Lots of shipping options

Cons

  • Flowers not as pictured

Product image of Bouqs
Bouqs

Bouqs is a flower delivery service that offers a wide selection of incredibly fragrant and stunning bouquets to truly wow your favorite person—with a little work.

From start to finish, everything impressed us. The website is easy to navigate and browse through items for your selected delivery date and direct shipping straight to your recipient's door. The flower delivery service includes arrangements for almost every occasion, from micro weddings to sympathy flowers. Bouqs also offers subscriptions so you can have fresh flowers on your table every month.

There’s a separate section on Bouqs’ website for those in need of next day delivery, making Bouqs a great choice if you've waited until the last minute to send flowers.

The bouquets from Bouqs look just like the pictures on the website and arrived on time, so you can be sure that what you are ordering is what will be delivered to that special someone. There are ample arrangement styles to suit any occasion. Most bouquets are available in different sizes including original, deluxe, and grand.

Unlike many other flower delivery services, vases are not included. However, for an additional cost, you can choose a vase to add on to your order. For something extra special, Bouqs also offers gift boxes that include a bouquet alongside a gift.

They arrived in a box and needed some extra attention when they arrived. After giving the stems a fresh cut and putting them in a vase with the included plant food, they started to loosen up and really bloom. While some flowers wilt by day two, we found that the Bouqs bouquet looked better than we expected.

Bouqs is great option for occasions, especially when your recipient may not live close to a local florist.

Pros

  • Unique bouquet designs

  • Offers wedding flowers

  • Customizable

Cons

  • Needs time to bloom

  • Limited gift add-ons

  • Vase not included

Product image of 1-800-Flowers
1-800-Flowers

Navigating the 1-800-Flowers website was a little difficult simply because there was so much to look through. Utilizing the site’s occasions categories was helpful to begin narrowing down the selection.

The floral designs on this website are very classic and might not please the trend seeker like our Best Upgrade pick does. However, the bouquet we ordered showed up looking fresh, full, and blooming with color. It didn't include plant food or care instructions upon arrival, but it did arrive on time.

For frequent flower orderers, 1-800-Flowers offers a “Passport” program for $19.99 a year. It’s a good option for those sending out flowers regularly. The program includes free shipping and no service charges on every delivery.

The company also gives you the option for weekend delivery days, as well as choosing the time slot in which your flowers are delivered. Both options come with an extra fee.

In addition to flowers, 1-800-Flowers offers gifts from its many sibling companies including Harry & David and Cheryl’s Cookies that you can send alongside the pretty stems.

Pros

  • Big selection of arrangements

  • Diverse selection of add-on gifts

Cons

  • Hard to navigate website

Product image of BloomsyBox
BloomsyBox

The selection of arrangements on BloomsyBox website is colorful and vibrant with designs anyone is sure to adore. Upon on time delivery, the flowers are lackluster. It takes some work to get them to look like the perky blooms you desire—about a day in water using the included plant food.

Another downside is that there is no option to add-on a vase or any other gifts to an order, so the flowers will arrive as a bouquet only. While most sites had a prompt to add-on a gift note, BloomsyBox’s option to do so was buried in the ordering process and is easy to miss if you're not paying attention.

On the site, there is a tab marked for bouquets available for next day delivery, which is helpful for last minute shoppers. However, overall, the site navigation is clunky, as you’re not able to filter through items for the delivery date you needed. The unclear layout resulted in us accidentally selecting a bouquet that, when check out time came, wasn’t available for the date we wanted.

If you're ordering from BloomsyBox, make sure to pay extra attention during the check out process and be prepared to supply your own vase.

Pros

  • Fun selection of flowers

  • Offers plants

Cons

  • Hard to navigate website

  • No add-on gifts or vases

  • No choice of bouquet size

Product image of Proflowers
Proflowers

The bouquet we ordered from Proflowers, a subsidiary of FTD, was the most disappointing of any online flower service we tested. While it looked similar to the bouquet I ordered online, the flowers arrived looking droopy and did not perk up much overnight. The bouquet arrived on time but didn't include plant food or care instructions, we just had to give the arrangement some fresh water and hope for the best.

On the plus side, the ProFlowers website is easy to navigate, with helpful tools for sorting flowers by availability and delivery date. Each bouquet is available in a variety of sizes and, occasionally, a variety of vase options.

ProFlowers also offers a wide selection of gifts from cookies and cheese boards to soothing spa products to tack on to your floral arrangement order.

While Proflowers designs looked promising online, the quality of flowers that shows up is disappointing.

Pros

  • Customizable

  • Huge add-on gift selection

Cons

  • Lackluster appearance

How We Tested Flower Delivery Services

A person's hands touching a bouquet.
Credit: Reviewed / Tim Renzi

We checked each bouquet for quality, design, and ease of service.

We tested each flower delivery service every step of the way from ordering to delivery, and considered how long the flowers held up in the following days.

With each service, we inspected the ease of the ordering process, the delivery options, plus the customizing options on bouquets.

When each bouquet arrived we inspected it to see how closely it resembled the flowers pictured online, if it arrived with wilted or missing stems, and how attractive we found the overall presentation to be.

In the days following, we kept an eye on how quickly they wilted and which bouquets had the most longevity.

What You Should Know About Using Online Flower Delivery Services

A bouquet of flowers in a cardboard box.
Credit: Reviewed / Tim Renzi

Companies like UrbanStems arrange the flowers and then bundle them up carefully into cardboard boxes which are then shipped overnight via mail carrier.

Not all flower delivery services are the same. While the ordering process across the board starts online, how the flowers get to the recipient varies.

The flower delivery services we tested fall into two different categories: Flowers that are delivered locally, and flowers that are shipped using a carrier.

The respective flower services that utilize local delivery are more traditional services like Teleflora, 1-800-Flowers, and Floom.

These bouquets are purchased online and arranged by local florists local in the recipient's area. Arrangements are hand delivered by the local flower shop that's been contracted out to fulfill the order. Same-day delivery is available with most of these services, which is a benefit of using local florists, who can make and deliver arrangements in a timely fashion.

Meanwhile, there are also floral services that ship items directly, using a more contemporary model. Flower delivery services like UrbanStems, Bouqs, and BloomsyBox arrange the flowers in a bundle inside of a cardboard box and are shipped overnight via a mail carrier.

In our experience, these flowers do not arrive already set in vases, like you might expect when ordering flowers online. Instead, the bouquets come in a box with a packet of plant food meant to be mixed in water to help the flowers get look perky and fresh overnight. Depending on where you order from, you may have the option to purchase a vase for an additional cost with your order.

While flower delivery services that ship products typically offer limited same-day delivery options, they’re a great option if your loved one doesn’t live close to a florist.

Should you tip a flower delivery service?

It's a good rule of thumb to tip any service that delivers to your house. The exception is for mailed flower delivery services we tested, like Bouqs, UrbanStems, and BloomsyBox. These flowers are shipped directly to your door from the company, so in the same way you wouldn't tip for a normal package delivery, there's no need to tip here.

Sometimes, a service fee is included with flower deliveries. If that is the case, you can skip the tip, too.

However, when using an online flower delivery service that contracts out local florists to hand deliver bouquets, it's best to leave a tip if you can.

It's worth noting, though, that none of the services we tested left an option to leave a tip online (and you don't want to have to put the burden of tipping on the recipient).

We recommend calling the florist directly to leave a tip over the phone. Usually, about $5 to $10 is appropriate for delivery. However, depending on the size of the bouquet, you may want to consider tipping more.
