Sweltering summer heat waves are making for a sweaty season already. While many are turning up the air conditioning during the day, others are looking for ways to stay cool at night.
Cooling bed sheets have become a hot ticket item to banish uncomfortable, restless nights. As a resident of hot and humid Florida, I decided to try out the uber-popular Bedsure Bamboo Cooling Sheets (available at Amazon) , which have over 48,000 reviews and a 4.5-star rating on Amazon.
These bamboo sheets are soft, silky, and affordable. They are also Oeko-Tex certified, bringing peace of mind to anyone worried about sleeping with possibly harmful chemicals. Despite the glowing Amazon reviews, I've got a few bones to pick after sleeping on these sheets.
What we like
These bamboo sheets are silky, soft, and inexpensive
Although they look plain, they feel luxurious to the touch.
The Bedsure sheet set includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. The twill-weave bamboo material gives them a soft and silky feel that is smooth night after night. The envelope enclosure on the pillowcases is a nice touch often found in higher-end bed sheets.
These cooling sheets have deep pockets and fit mattresses up to 16 inches deep.
Overall, the set has a luxurious feel without a high price tag. At just under $61 for a king set, the sheets are comfortable without getting too slippery in the middle of the night.
The sheets come with an environmentally-friendly certification
Bamboo-derived fabrics are having a moment. The breathable material, made from silky fibers, is in baby pajamas, robes, and now, more bedsheets.
Manufacturers claim the fibers have moisture-wicking properties that help regulate body temperatures during sleep, and Bedsure says these sheets absorb more sweat than organic cotton.
However, a deeper dive into bedding fabrics reveals that bamboo must be processed from its original form to reach the soft, smooth fibers I expect, which are typically rayon.
While this is not typically an environmentally friendly process, I like that Bedsure’s sheets come with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 rating—a certification that ensures the sheets are without harmful substances.
What we don’t like
There isn’t much of a cooling effect
Unfortunately, contrary to the product's description, I didn't wake up from a cool sleep experience.
Despite the glowing Amazon reviews, this temperature-regulating bamboo sheet set is not as cooling as advertised. The sheets stayed dry, but I did not.
I already sleep with a fan blasting next to my bed, and I woke up sweating when sleeping on these supposedly cooling sheets.
Each morning, I hoped something would change, and I would find that the thousands of positive Amazon reviews were right. Instead, I was drenched and disappointed. The sheets did not live up to the single biggest reason to buy them in the first place.
The sheets do not wash well
After just one wash, I was left disappointed by the sheet's overall quality.
The sheets arrived at my doorstep wrinkled—and looked no different after a run through my washer and dryer.
There was no visible pilling after washing the sheets, but a good bit of fuzz comes off the sheets in the laundry. I had to use a lint brush to remove it all.
I was extra hot and bothered when I discovered my husband’s natural body oils stained the sheets and pillowcase. Even worse, the stain remover I regularly use on my sheets left blotches in the dye of the pillowcase.
However, some blood that got on the sheets did come out.
The color differed from what we ordered
The color of the sheets came as a surprise. Despite ordering light gray, they showed up on my doorstep as more of a dark gray, which, to me, looks almost blue.
Some digging through the Amazon reviews reveals other customers have the same problem with colors like the sage green.
Are the Bedsure Bamboo Cooling Sheets worth it?
No. Despite so many positive reviews, I don’t recommend them
If you're someone who runs hot overnight during sleep, you'll want to find a set of sheets that can actually keep you cool.
There are plenty of amazing sheet sets on Amazon, and Bedsure is not one of them. The price is attractive and they feel buttery, but they left me melting each night.
The quality is lacking, especially after just one wash. For bed sheets that keep you cool at night, check out Casper's Hyperlite sheets—one of our top picks for sheets to help beat the summer heat.
These soft-feel Bamboo sheets come in a variety of colors and sizes, but fall short on offering the promise of a cool night's sleep.
