While you may have seen reformer Pilates classes all over social media this past year, there are plenty of ways to practice Pilates at home without the big and expensive equipment. With the right gear and a virtual class queued up, it’s easy to get a fun and challenging Pilates workout at home. To help you get the best workout, we’ve rounded up our top five picks for Pilates apps to check out.
1. Alo Moves
We named Alo Moves the best yoga app for its abundance of yoga content, but this app is also a stellar option for Pilates at home.
Alo Moves offers a variety of Pilates sessions to choose from, and its algorithm is excellent at tailoring its recommendations to your preferred workout styles—e.g. duration, difficulty, and class type. The instructors are cheerful, motivating, and knowledgeable, and help me look forward to class each and every day. An Alo Moves membership costs $20 a month or $100 a year, but we think the class quality makes the price well worth it.
2. Asana Rebel
Asana Rebel costs $6 a month or $72 a year and features an array of challenging workouts.
If you enjoy sprinkling Pilates classes into a more diverse workout routine, Asana Rebel is the app for you. The app has a vast library of Pilates classes to choose from, in addition to yoga, strength, and cardio classes to mix it up.
The workouts are fun and challenging, and Asana Rebel’s audio-style teaching is easy to follow. The app is easy to integrate into your day-to-day exercise routine, as you can easily select from a variety of modalities depending on your mood. Asana Rebel costs $6 a month or $72 a year.
3. FitOn
The FitOn app features a variety of workouts, meditations, and nutrition guides on the app.
Those who struggle to stick to a regular exercise routine will want to check out FitOn. The app’s motivational workout plans, calendar reminders, and social features make it exciting to open and use every day—and it has a wide selection of Pilates sessions available so you can hit the mat at home.
A basic version of FitOn is available for free with which you get unlimited workouts. To access FitOn’s premium features you’ll want to spring for the FitOn Pro membership, with which you get personalized class recommendations, a meal plan, the option to download classes for offline streaming, and the ability to stream workouts to your TV and connect your own Spotify or Apple Music account. FitOn Pro costs $25 for a six-month subscription or $30 for a year-long membership.
4. Glo
Pilates goers have the option to do a 7-day free trial of the Glo app.
Glo’s detailed narration is one of my favorite things about the app. Whether you’re taking a heart-pumping Pilates session or a mellow cool-down to focus on flexibility, the instruction is easy to follow and helps me understand how I should be performing each exercise.
In addition to recommending personalized picks, Glo showcases plenty of live classes and series to help you change up your workout. A Glo membership costs $30 a month or $245 a year.
5. Body by Blogilates
Certified Fitness and Pilates Instructor, Cassey Ho curated the workouts for the Body by Blogilates app.
Fans of Cassey Ho’s Blogilates YouTube channel will want to check out Body by Blogilates, the app where you can access all of Ho’s workouts in one place on your phone or tablet. You can use the app without signing up for an account, but making one allows you to track your progress and connect with others on the app’s social tab.
The basic workout pass, which costs $4 a month or $40 a year, gives you access to all challenges and programs plus the monthly Blogilates Workout Calendar, which as fans know, acts as an easy-to-follow workout plan. The all-access pass costs $7 a month or $70 a year and lets you set personalized goals, journal daily, track meals and water, and partake in 30-, 60-, and 90-day workout programs.
